Founded on a simple observation

An interior designer who watched this pattern for a decade and a first-time homeowner who lived it built the system they both wished existed.
The name comes from the Greek mathano — to learn through experience. Based in Los Angeles.
Charlie Barstein is an interior designer with a decade of experience, including time at AD100 firm Commune Design, whose work is built on the narrative of craft and an intuitive understanding of how people actually live.
Andrew Janatka has spent a decade building software in startups, now focused on using AI to elevate how people discover design.
